University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) exist in every state and territory to serve as a resource in the areas of education, research and service to meet the needs of people with developmental disabilities. Authorized by the Developmental Disabilities and Bill of Rights Act of 2000 and funded by the Administration on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, there are 67 UCEDDs in the United States and its territories. Vision, Mission, and Activities of UCCEDD

The Vision of UCCEDD is:

All people, including children and adults living with disabilities and their families, fully participate in society and live healthy, safe, self-determined and productive lives.

The Mission of UCCEDD is:

UCCEDD is a leader in working with and on behalf of children and adults with disabilities and their families so they can lead the lives they want. UCCEDD accomplishes its mission through education, training, research, impacting on policy, and sharing information.

Activities of UCCEDD

  • Interdisciplinary training of students and professionals on developmental disabilities
  • Research and analysis to develop new knowledge on disability that can be applied to programs and policies
  • Information sharing and technical assistance for the community at large on best practices in disabilities and new information
  • Community education and collaboration: education and training for community members; developing model services and programs to support full participation of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in communities

Administration on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and the Developmental Disabilities and Bill of Rights Act

UCEDDs are funded by the Administration on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities which is dedicated to ensuring that individuals with developmental disabilities and their families are able to fully participate in and contribute to all aspects of community life in the United States and its territories.
